For Us

Long before the worlds were made
Before His handiwork displayed
A message was to be conveyed:
God is for us

He was for us, ruined in the fall
He loved us not withstanding all
He was for us, rebels to His grace
As He helped us humbly seek His face

O believer, lift Your gaze
To the King of endless praise
Marvel this delightful phrase:
God is for us

Struggling with our doubts and sin
Tempted from without, within
There's grace sufficient, lean on Him
God is for us

Now the only time He turned His back
Was to own each stripe from a Roman lash
He bore the full weight of holy wrath
As He smote the only Son He had

O believer, lift your eyes
To His precious, bleeding side
Wounds of costly love that cry,
God is for us!
