Title: Lawrence John Project - Highway To Hell or Stairway To Heaven Lyrics and Music Video [2013-04-13] CD s Downloads at vibedeck LawrenceJohnProject Written produced by Lawrence John Click show more for story Copyright IMRO PRS MCPS LawrenceJohnProject gmail vibedeck LawrenceJohnProject No 3 in The HOTDISC European Top 40 July 2012 Chiming guitars in a song about choices We all face choices every day but those with addictions to alcohol drugs gambling sex etc can face the most difficult of choices on a daily basis For some these choices can mean the difference between life and death heaven or hell but with the help of a good friend or partner many will continue to make the right choices In early 2012 after hearing Highway To Hell and Stairway To Heaven on the radio several times in the space of a couple of weeks I gave some thought to writing a song based on the two opposing titles but dismissed it thinking it would be either too cheesy or too naff Then finally one day after hearing Stairway To Heaven AGAIN I decided I was fed up just thinking about the idea and decided to give it a go figuring that if I didn t like it I could always bin it When I finally sat down to write the chorus came almost immediately and the rest of the song followed soon after I originally wrote it from the perspective of an alcoholic using the line if I fall off the wagon but then realized it could also apply to other addictions like drugs gambling and sex etc and so changed the line to if I fall by the wayside Apart from the two classic rock titles which inspired the song you ll find two others neither of which were contrived I used Devil In Disguise initially as a short term rhyme aware of Elvis s song but then I realized it made perfect sense that someone could literally become a devil when in the grip of their addiction and still look the same The other song title I used was Chris Rea s Road To Hell which I wasn t even aware I had used until long after I finished the song It was just a natural choice of words for the progression of the storyline and so I left it in I was pretty amazed the song turned out so well and that it made so much sense when it could have all gone so horribly wrong I found out some time later that there was a 1989 various artists compilation album called Stairway To Heaven Highway To Hell featuring cover songs of artists who had suffered a drug or alcohol related death so I guess I wasn t the first to give thought to these two opposing titles LAWRENCE JOHN Deejay Songwriter Producer Belfast and Nashville Music Duration: 2:17 | Views: 1855 | Votes: 16 | Rating: 4.5
